Cherry blossoms maternity session in UW Arboretum

Maternity

Cherry blossoms in Seattle is hands down my favorite time of the year. Of course, UW Quad is the prime location to watch these beautiful trees in bloom, but there are so many others as well. Washington Park Arboretum in Seattle is one of those places and I was so happy that we were able to document Yanjin’s maternity session before the season ended. This park is particularly breathtaking this time of year and even as the blooms fade away, the remnants of their beauty remain on the ground for days and weeks to come.

When Yanjin initially reached out to schedule her maternity photoshoot she was only a few weeks from her due date. We scheduled her maternity photoshoot later in the week, however, just days before our session, she asked if we could move it up as she suspected the baby might be coming sooner.

I love documenting all seasons of motherhood, whether you’re a first time mom or a motherhood veteran and I was so happy that I got to to capture this journey for Yanjin. She wore a beautiful maternity dress – sky blue to honor their soon-to-be baby boy – and her daughter looked adorable in her little outfit. I had a great time getting to know this family as we explored the Arboretum, and I could tell they had a really special connection.

The next morning I woke up to a text from Yanjin telling me that she ended up going into labor that same night so the fact that I got to photograph them on their last night as a family of 3 made this session all the more special.
