You blinked, and a week passed. Then another. The days are long and the nights longer, and somewhere in between, your baby is already changing. Seattle baby photography is about more than a beautiful image. It is about pressing pause on a season that moves so much faster than you ever expect. It is about creating something you will return to for the rest of your life.
This guide covers everything you want to know before booking a newborn session: what the experience looks like, how to prepare, what sets a lifestyle approach apart, and what to expect from inquiry to gallery delivery. Whether you are still pregnant and planning ahead, or your baby is already here — this is your starting point.

Seattle Baby Photography Styles: What’s the Difference?
If you are just beginning to research newborn sessions, you have probably noticed that not all newborn photography looks the same. Understanding the difference between styles will help you find the right fit and know what to expect before you book your Seattle newborn session.
Posed Newborn Photography
Posed newborn photography is a traditional approach and is what many people picture first when they think about baby photography. A sleeping baby curled into a basket, wrapped tightly, or nestled into a carefully styled setup. These sessions typically take place in a studio and work best in the first one to two weeks of life, when babies are sleepiest and most cooperative.
The images are polished and intentional, with a consistent editorial look. This style can be beautiful. It is also more controlled in terms of environment, timing, and what the session requires of your newborn.
Lifestyle Newborn Photography
Lifestyle newborn photography takes a different approach entirely. Sessions take place in your home, in the spaces where your family is already settling into this new season. The focus is on genuine connection — the way you hold your baby, the tender glances between you, the realness of these early days — rather than on props or elaborate setups.
This style follows your baby’s lead. If they need to eat, you eat. If they want to be held, you hold them. Nothing is forced and nothing is staged. The result is a set of images that feel true to who your family actually is, and that tend to age beautifully because of it.

My Approach to Lifestyle Newborn Photography
My newborn sessions are in-home and lifestyle-led and it is the approach I believe in most for this season of life. I work with the natural light in your space, moving through your home to find the soft, warm pockets that make for beautiful, timeless images. My editing is true to color and is inspired by film — clean, polished, never trendy. These images are designed to look just as beautiful in twenty years as they do today.
Every session I shoot takes place in your home, in the spaces that already hold your family’s story. I am not interested in recreating a studio environment in your living room. I am interested in what is already there: the morning light coming through your bedroom window, the nursery you spent months putting together, the way your partner looks at your baby when they think no one is watching.
There are no props in my sessions, no elaborate setups, and no pressure to pose or perform. There are no rigid timelines and no moment where you will feel like you are doing it wrong. If your little one needs to eat, we pause. If they want to be held, we lean into that. I follow your baby’s lead entirely. Feeding breaks, settling time, slow transitions — all of it is built into how I work. I come prepared, I come calm, and I handle every detail so that your only job on session day is to be present with your family.
The Philosophy Behind my Work
What I care about most is that you feel taken care of throughout this entire experience. My role is to handle every detail — from planning your session around the best light in your home, to guiding you on what to wear, to delivering a gallery that feels like a true reflection of your family. You show up. I take care of the rest.

Why Newborn Photos Are Worth It
The newborn stage is brief in a way that is difficult to describe until you are living it. You know it intellectually – everyone tells you it goes fast. But nothing quite prepares you for the morning you look down and realize your baby’s face has already changed.
You are in the middle of one of the most profound and transformative seasons of your entire life right now. You are healing, adjusting, and falling in love with a tiny person you just met. As a mom who has gone through this 3 times, I promise you that the details that feel all-encompassing today grow distant faster than you expect.
What newborn photographs hold goes deeper than how your baby looked during this time. They hold the feeling of this particular season: the light in your home on a slow morning, the way your baby curls into your chest, the tenderness of days that feel endless and are somehow already behind you.
These are not the photos that get buried in a camera roll. They are the ones you frame, return to, and pull out years from now when you need to remember. As a mom who has been through this three times, I understand how scheduling newborn photos can feel like one more thing on an already overwhelming to-do list — but they are genuinely so worth it. Many of the moms I work with look back and say the same thing: they are so glad they did it, and most wish they had not waited so long.

When to Book Your Baby Photos in Seattle
The short answer on booking: as early as possible. I recommend reaching out during your 3rd trimester, ideally around 28 to 32 weeks. Due to unpredictable nature of birth, my newborn session availability is limited so these sessions tend to book up quickly.
Once you inquire, I will respond within 24 hours and we will get to know each other a little before anything is confirmed. From there, we sign a contract and pencil in a session date around your due date. Once your baby arrives, we finalize the timing. We’ll work around your recovery and will take into account your baby’s feeding and nap schedule. If your little one comes early, late, or on a completely different schedule than planned (which they often do), we will adjust. You do not need to have everything figured out — you just need to get on the calendar. And if your baby is already here and you have not booked yet, please reach out anyway and see if I’m able to get you on the schedule.
The Best Age for Newborn Photos
The first two weeks of life are the sweet spot for newborn photography. In those early days, babies are sleepier, curl more naturally, and settle more easily into the gentle, unhurried moments that define this style of work. There is also a softness to this window — a brand-new quality — that passes faster than you expect.
That said, I photograph newborns up to eight weeks old (or even beyond that!), and some of my favorite sessions have happened well past that initial two-week mark. Older babies bring something different to a session: more alert expressions, more interaction, more of their personality beginning to surface. The images look a little different, but they are no less meaningful.

What to Expect from Your Newborn Session
Before Your Session
Once your date is secured, the planning begins. As your due date approaches, I will send you a detailed styling guide covering what to wear, what to avoid, how to prepare your other child(ren), if you have them, and how to think about preparing your home (without overpreparing). You do not need to deep clean every room or redecorate your nursery. I work with what is already there.
If putting together outfits feels like one more thing right now, I offer access to a curated client wardrobe for women, babies, and children. I can even sometimes drop pieces off on your porch ahead of time so you do not have to think about it. You can also browse my Pinterest board for styling inspiration and examples of what lifestyle sessions look like in practice.
Before your session, I will also ask about the natural light in your home — which rooms get the best morning light, which windows are brightest at different times of day. This helps me plan our time together intentionally, so that when session day arrives, we are not figuring things out as we go.
During Your Session
Sessions last up to 2 hours, and that time is yours entirely. We move through your home at whatever pace your baby sets, pausing for feeding, soothing, or simply settling in together. There is no rushing, no checklist to get through, and no moment where you will feel like you are falling behind. The majority of it will be spent exactly where you want to be — holding your baby, snuggling them, simply being together. I do not use elaborate props or staged setups, and your baby can be asleep or awake. Both make for beautiful images. I am there to document what is already happening between you.
When I arrive, I will walk through your home and scout the best-lit spaces for your session. I typically work in the primary bedroom, the nursery, and around any large windows. The couch is often a favorite spot too. Please do not feel like you need to have the whole house spotless. We can easily tidy a single area before we use it, and the rest does not matter at all.
The majority of the session will take place in your primary bedroom, nursery and sometimes in the other living areas if the light is good.
I will guide you gently throughout, suggesting positions, adjusting light, moving between spaces, but mostly I am watching for the moments that happen on their own. Those are always the ones that matter most. Siblings, partners, and pets are all welcome to be part of the story. Whether this is your first baby or your third, my goal is the same: to make this feel relaxed, calm, and completely free of pressure. You do not need to be anything other than yourselves.
After Your Session
Within approximately three weeks, your final gallery will be delivered to a private online portal. Every image is hand-edited in my film-inspired style — warm, clean, and consistent throughout. You can share, order artwork and print your images directly from your gallery.
Your collection includes a generous print credit to my professional print lab, because these photographs deserve to exist beyond a screen. For families who want to take their images further, I also offer heirloom album and wall art design — details on both are available when you inquire.
If you have any questions, whether it’s about downloading, backing up, choosing prints, or creating an album, I’m absolutely here to help. It’s so important to me that your memories not only live in your heart but are preserved beautifully in your home too.

Why choose me for your Baby Photography needs
Before I was a photographer, I spent over a decade as a software engineer. I was good at it. But after I became a mom, I found myself drawn toward something different — work that was slower, more human, and rooted in the kind of moments that actually stay with you. That shift changed everything about how I approach this work.
As a mom of 3 I have lived this season from the inside — the exhaustion, the tenderness, the strange simultaneity of feeling overwhelmed and completely in love. I do not just understand what you are going through during a newborn session. I have been there, in that same fog, holding that same tiny person, wishing someone could slow time down. That understanding shapes every session I shoot.
My approach is calm, intentional, and deeply unhurried. I do not arrive with a rigid shot list or a predetermined idea of what your session should look like. I arrive ready to follow your family’s lead, to pay attention, and to find the images that are already there waiting. That patience is not incidental to my work — it is the foundation of it.
I am proud to work with all kinds of families. Every family is welcome here, including LGBTQ+ families. My sessions are designed to feel inclusive, comfortable, and free of assumption from the very first inquiry.
But the thing I am most proud of is simpler than that. The messages I receive from moms after their galleries are delivered, telling me that the photos look exactly like how that season felt.
If that is what you are looking for, I would love to work with you. You can browse the portfolio to get a feel for my work, or reach out directly to start the conversation.
Seattle Baby Photography FAQ
How old should my baby be for newborn photos?
The first two weeks of life are the ideal window, when babies are sleepiest and curl most naturally. That said, I photograph newborns up to eight weeks old. If your baby is already here and you have not booked yet, please reach out. It is very rarely too late.
How long does a session take?
Sessions are up to two hours. That time includes feeding breaks, settling time, and moving through your home at whatever pace your baby sets. There is no rushing and no hard stop — we simply follow your baby’s lead.
Do I need a big, bright home?
Not at all. In-home Seattle baby photography works with whatever natural light your home offers. And please don’t worry, most homes have at least one or two beautiful pockets of light. Before your session I will ask about your space so we can plan accordingly. A single bright window is often all we need.
What should we wear?
Soft, neutral colors photograph best indoors — white, cream, tan, and pastels, with little or no pattern. For moms, a flowy dress is a great option. I will send you a full styling guide once your session is booked. I also offer access to a curated client wardrobe if you would like help with outfits.
What if my baby won’t settle or keeps crying?
That is completely okay and happens more often than you think. I do not need your baby to be asleep or perfectly content. Feeding breaks and settling time are built into every session, and awake, expressive moments in your arms are just as beautiful as sleepy ones. We follow your baby’s lead and let the session unfold naturally.
Do you use props?
I keep props minimal. I will bring a few neutral swaddles and blankets and a baby basket. And if you have items that are meaningful to your family, I am happy to incorporate those as well. What you will not find in my sessions are elaborate props or staged setups — the focus is always on connection.
How many photos will I receive?
Your gallery will include a thoughtfully edited selection from your session. I focus on quality over quantity — delivering images that are consistent, polished, and meaningful rather than an overwhelming number of similar shots. I do not guarantee a specific number of images but most of my clients receive 100+ images.
When will I get my gallery?
Your final gallery will be delivered within approximately three weeks of your session via a private online portal, ready to download, share, and print.
Can I book newborn and maternity together?
Yes — and I love when families do. The Motherhood Collection combines a one-hour maternity session with a two-hour newborn session. The First Year Collection takes it even further, adding two milestone sessions at six months and one year. Both are a beautiful way to document the full arc of this season.
Ready to Book Your Seattle Baby Photography Session?

Sessions book up quickly, and getting on the calendar early means one less thing to think about once your baby arrives.
